Dr. Komyoji (光明寺博士, Kōmyōji Hakase), whose real name is Nobuhiko Komyoji (光明寺信彦, Kōmyōji Nobuhiko)[1], is a renowned figure in the world of robotics engineering. He was abducted and held captive by DARK, which led him to create numerous combat androids, including Kikaider Brothers.
Biography[]
After escaping from the DARK Base, Dr. Komyoji lost his memory and wandered throughout the country, taking on various professions such as a hot dog vendor, taxi driver, security guard, and more. Despite suffering from amnesia, he retained latent memories and skills as a robotics engineer, even repairing a TV at a fisherman's house he encountered during his travels, and some even speculated he might have been an electrician (Episode 31).
Additionally, he encountered the injured and unconscious Jiro and performed emergency repairs by transplanting the arm of a DARK Robot that had been left nearby. His good intentions backfired, but the situation was handled by Mitsuko Komyoji (Episode 32).
In the later part of the story, Dr. Komyoji's brain was transplanted into Hakaider, while his remaining body was preserved in the DARK Base. However, through a surgery performed by Mitsuko, he was restored to his original body, and his memories were simultaneously recovered.
In episode 43, considering the misuse of advanced androids in reality, he temporarily suspended his research activities. He had previously purchased a home in Switzerland and, together with Mitsuko and Masaru Komyoji, relocated there. Before that, he gave words of encouragement to Jiro, who had come to say goodbye before embarking on a journey of training.
Kikaider 01[]
In episode 46, Dr. Komyoji returns from Switzerland with a new invention, the Robot Regeneration Device, but is captured by SHADOW and forced to build the device. However, he had secretly incorporated a mechanism in the device that greatly influences SHADOW's fate. In the final scene, he imparts the series' theme to Akira and others.
